Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Management Policy

This CCTV Management Policy establishes clear guidelines for the installation, operation, and monitoring of closed-circuit television systems owned by Settle or privately installed by residents within our properties.

Update: Under review - 4th August

Thank you for the feedback we received on our Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Policy. We received 4 comments from 1 survey response. All contributions are essential to improving this policy, and we're currently reviewing the suggestions.

📢 Here's what we heard:

  • 75% of residents thought the language in the policy was clear
  • 75% of residents thought the policy was easy to understand.

One core theme was raised by residents in response to our CCTV Policy:

  1. Residents value CCTV, like video doorbells, to help them feel safe at home.

We're now reviewing all feedback and revising the policy based on your input. We will publish the updated version reflecting your thoughts soon.

We want to make sure this policy truly reflects residents' priorities.

You can follow this project at the bottom of this page to stay informed.

We recognise the necessity of CCTV systems to help prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as the increasing demand for domestic CCTV solutions like doorbell cameras to enhance residents' home security.

It's important to balance these benefits with the potential for privacy complaints arising from actual or perceived intrusions caused by CCTV use.

This policy sets out a clear and consistent approach to managing CCTV and installation requests by defining expected standards for those installing CCTV, specifying when installations are permitted, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

To make sure the policy promotes safety, fairness, and consistency, we'd love to hear from you!

Your feedback will help shape how we continue to support residents, which is why we're inviting you to take our simple survey that should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

📋This policy is no longer accepting feedback.

A note from Michael Hotton, Quality Assurance Manager

"A clear CCTV policy is vital for housing associations—it deters crime, ensures safety, and protects privacy by defining how surveillance and footage are managed. With residents increasingly installing devices like Ring doorbells, the policy also guides responsible use of personal CCTV to maintain trust and respect within the community."
