Campfield Way, Highover Road & Icknield Way Redevelopment
The planning application for this scheme has now been submitted.
This follows the final consultation that we held at 30 Campfield Way in November last year where we shared the most up to date plans and designs for the new homes through exhibition boards.
What happens now?
It can take up to a couple of weeks for North Herts Council to validate the planning application. Once a planning application is registered, local residents will be consulted by North Herts Council and the Local Planning Authority. We will also share details here and our website .The period of consultation is 21 days. We encourage residents to continue to share your views so that we can progress plans to redevelop new affordable homes in this area of Letchworth.
Drop-in sessions
We will be holding drop-in sessions every Tuesday morning between 10am and 11.30am at 30 Campfield Way. Some members of our team will be there and can help answer questions you may have.
Latest plans and designs
Since we launched proposed plans to redevelop the homes in the area in 2021, we've engaged and worked with the local residents, partners and the community and held five consultations, making thoughtful changes based on the valuable feedback we have received throughout the consultation process.

Campfield Way, Highover Road & Icknield Way exhibition boards
Background
The properties at Campfield Way and Highover Road, often referred to as Hawksley bungalows after manufacturer, AW Hawksley, are prefabricated timber-framed, aluminum-clad bungalows that were built in the late 1940s with a predicted lifespan of 60 years.
To bring these properties in line with government requirements would involve several considerations, including potentially invasive work to their structure. With the amount of work and disruption involved and the level of financial investment required, we have proposed that the best option would be to invest in developing new homes on the site of the existing properties. Our commitment is to create a neighbourhood that is good to live in and an environment that positively enhances the conservation area.
Icknield Way (49A to 75B)
In June 2022, we contacted residents living in neighbouring Icknield Way (49A to 75B) about the need for potential developments to their homes. The properties in Icknield Way were built in the early 1950's.
